WERNER cup 2010 - Trophy and awards to all participants of this year sailing compatition on the route Kaštela - Dubrovnik - Kastela

We want to say thank you for the pictures delivered from mr. Mateusz Michalski, owner of Bosman Events Ltd. and organiser of the WERNER cup!

This year's Helsinki International Boat Show, which ended on Sunday at the Helsinki Exhibition & Convention Centre, indicated clearly that there's plenty of demand for boats and boating supplies on the Scandinavian market as almost 77,000 visitors came to the fair.
The Helsinki International Boat Show further strengthened its status as the major event for boating and other aquatic past times.  Some exhibitors even think that the fair exceeded their expectations:
"Visitor's high regard for quality in boat manufacturing was clearly evident. We could also notice that the visitors' standard was correspondingly high at this year's Boat Show,"  says the Managing Director of Finngulf Yachts.
The Exhibitors were quite satisfied with the Boat Show and the commercial success of the fair encouraged them to start planning for next year. Even before this year's event ended, around 50 exhibitors signed up for the next Helsinki International Boat Show, which is to be held in February 2011,.  

Workshop in Helsinki

On Thursday 18.02. a workshop was held at the Helsinki Exhibition & Convention Centre fair, organised by the Croatian economy chamber, and visited by a several number of reporters, the managing director of the Croatian tourist board in Stockholm-Sweden, and the Croatian consul in Helsinki. Tha Croatian prepaid TV station "Navigare" visited the stand for an interview with mr. Zeljko Jerat, president of the charter company association of Croatia.

On December 11, 2009 BAVADRIA YACHTING organized its not traditional Christmas party at the Sailing Point in Graz. This time we had the largest Christmas party ever, as about 120 of our loyal clients and friends came to celebrate the end of the year. We are proud to say that our guests came not only from Graz, but also from all parts of Austria as well as Slovenia and Croatia. We also had a delagation of 15 employees from Bavadria and Marina Kastela travel to Graz from Kastela, only for the Christmas party, and perhaps some Christmas shopping.

The highlights of the party were not only the delicious Pasta ala Vongole, but also the brilliant performance by the newly founded "Klapa Graz". This is a new male and female, traditional Dalmatian a capella group, that is based in Graz and includes a number of professional musicians of Croatian origin. The "Klapa Graz" got the crowd really going, especially when Capt. Josko Berket, the owner of Bavadria and Marina Kastela joined them in a traditional dalmatian Christmas carol.

The Christmas party lasted late into the night and we are sure it will be even better next year.

Now that the sailing season 2009 has come to an end, Bavadria is getting prepared to transfer all of its yachts to the Marina Kastela dry dock. There the yachts will spend the entire winter and our service team will carry out any necessary repair and maintenance works, thanks to the connection between BavAdria and Marina Kastela, as they are part of one family business.

While the yacht is still hanging on the travel lift, the service team will clean the underwater hull with high pressure water-jet, remove the mast and polish the rest of the hull. Afterwards, the interior of the boat will be dismantled and cleaned, while all the old ropes will be replaced. Of course, a full service of the engine parts, electrical winches, batteries and rechargers will also have to be carried out.

Last weekend the 10 annual BavaAdria regatta took place in the Bay of Kastela. Among the 14 crews, all sailing in equal Bavaria 46 types, there were a number of renowned skippers, including Mate Arapov, Karlo Kuret, Marin Misura and Vasilj Zbogar. Due to a strong NE wind, the two Saturday races were canceled, and only one round took place on Sunday during 4-8 kts wind speed.

At the begining of the regatta, Sailing Club "Mornar" with Frane Arapov as the skipper, took the lead. Arapov's crew was exchanging the lead with "Marina Kastela" and "Coast Guard" crew throughout the race.

After two hours of sailing, the boat that arrived at the finish line first was "Marina Kastela" with BavAdria base manager Armano Zekan as the skipper. Second was the "Coast Guard" and "Mornar" only came in third. Along with Zekan, the "Marina Kastela" crew  consisted of Capt. Pasko Kolombatovic, Pave Brajcic, Ervin Kuzmanic, Mladen Kuzmanic, Damjan Berket and Boris Bakotin.

After the regatta all the crews sat down for fresh fish and a few glasses of wine and enjoyed the music of "Klappa MP 3". Then the awards were given out to the best crews and everyone celebrated another succesful and joyfull BavAdria regatta.

RESULTS

Dear friends,

As we have begun with the preparations for the new season 2010, we would like to inform you about our stands at this year's European Nautical Fairs.

The first fair where we were present, this time in cooperation with the HTZ (Croatian Board of Tourism), was the "Interboot 2009" in Friedrichshafen (Germany).

HTZ - Croatian Board of Tourism

The first stage of the 65th "Vis regatta" was held on 16.10.2009 during a favorable wind and ideal weather conditions. All competitors started at NE wind 15 knots. About 150 cruisers were taking part and set off in two classes, ORC class starting at 09:00 hours, and OPEN class starting 15 minutes later.

The Marina Kastela crew passed the finish line in Vis in 11 place out of 30 competitors in the ORC class. A strong NE wind was blowing in stern and almost boats were sailing by using the spinaker or gennaker, except for a few minutes during the passage between Solta and Brac.

The second day of the 65th "Vis regatta" was a free day except for the 15 racing boats who took part in the port of Vis.

The second stage of the 65th "Vis regatta" was held on 18.10.2009. The start was moved to the Pakleni Otoci due to the strong NE headwind, which kept the crews working hard all day. The crew of our Sailing club Marina Kastela, with Capt. Josip Berket as skipper, successfully completed the second stage of the regatta in 10 place. This meant that overall Marina Kastela won 12th place in the ORC class, and 5th place in the ORC 2 subclass. The winner of the Regatta was ONE with Karlo Kuret as skipper, in the ORC class, and ANADORA, with Mate Arapov as skipper, in the OPEN class.

Well done!

In accordance with the new law adopted by the Croatian government, we are obliged to charge each client upon arrival in Marina Kastela a tourist tax, payable in advance for the whole charter period. This tax is in amount of KN 7.00 = approx € 1.00 per person /per day. You will receive a confirmation (receipt) of the tourist tax payment, together with the crew list, as well as a copy of the Ministry Decision in order to avoid double payments in other Marinas and ports.

At the end of the events series for 2008/2009 at the Segeltreffpunkt, Bruno Hafner showed us his beautiful film about a sailing trip through the archipelago off the Swedish coast around Stockholm. The audience, filling up our premises up to the last seat, despite the sunny day out, was fascinated by the film.

The film awakened again the longing for sailing through beautiful seas, discovering quiet bays, and everything else that is an indelible part of a sailing trip.

During the breaks with a buffet and some Dalmatian wine, our friends had the chance to mingle and ensure us that the Segeltreffpunkt events are not to be missed. We often heard that the Segeltreffpunkt has become an institution in the heart of Graz's old city.

We would like to thank all our sailing friends who have been regular visitors of the Segeltreffpunkt. Our special thanks goes to all presenters, who prepared their contributions with enthusiasm and care - our successful events are their achievement.

Graz and Kastela 

The famous founder and former owner of Jordan Grand Prix, Eddie Jordan, took over an Elan sailing yacht in the presence of many local and international journalists at an event in Marina Kastela. Jordan plans to take active part in regatta races with his new boat.

The Elan 450 yacht is a masterpiece by designer Rob Humphreys, with special equipment for both racing and personal use.

"I started doing regattas as a boy in the laser class, and I haven't done it for more than 30 years. Last year I started being more active with sailing again, because I miss regattas. I am now ready for the races in France and Sardinia", Jordan said.

Even though Jordan will be sailing away to Greece in a couple of days, he plans to often anchor his yacht, which will sail under a Croatian flag, in Marina Kastela.

Marina Kastela is offering a discount of 25% for daily transit berth for yachts up to 20 m.

The discount does not apply to charter boats that carry out a crew change in Marina Kastela.

The winter sleep is over - it is time to sail away again!

This year Bavadria was represented again with its own stand at the "Boot Tulln" Fair 2009. We are proud to announce that the Fair was a success for Bavadria! 

Many old and new friends of Bavadria from around Austria came by our stand. We were happy to welcome and get to know a number of new guests, who will be coming to Marina Kastela for the first time this year. We are looking forward to welcoming them in Kastela!
We hope we managed to spread some Dalmatian flair: starting with our real Dalmatians, Capt. Berket, his son Luka Berket and Danijel to the Dalmatian delicacies such as candied orange peels and almonds and dried figs (homemade by the Berket Family). Our guests also enjoyed a glass of Dalmatian wine, some Livanjski cheese and anchovies marinated in olive oil.  

We thank everybody who visited us at the "Boot Tulln" Fair - our regular and new guests and those that would still like to join us! We will keep our promise to continue putting our service to you in the first place!

One Bavaria 46 Crusier and one Bavaria 50 Cruiser just came to Marina Kastela directly from Germany. Our Base Manager Armano Zekan, proud of these new acquisitions, immediately used the opportunity to take a picture of them.

With these two new boats our fleet has grown to a total of 31 yachts!

We wish our guests relaxing and exciting sailing trips with our two new yachts and ... a calm sea and favorable winds!  

At the end of each season, BavAdria has the unique opportunity to use the dry docks of Marina Kastela throughout the whole winter. This is so because BavAdria belongs to the same family business as Marina Kastela.

The yachts receive full service and a thorough cleaning while on dry dock. The underwater hull and the floor on the inside are meticulously cleaned, ragged ropes are exchanged, the yachts are newly buffed on all sides. It goes without mention that all yachts undergo a complete technical service.

Our Bavaria 44 boat - Tatinja - will be the first one opening Season 2009.

This year BavAdria Yachting expands its fleet with 2 new yachts. The Bavaria 46 and Bavaria 50 Cruiser from April 2009 are to become a part of our fleet, allowing a total of 31 boats in season 2009 to be available for our sailing friends.

As you know, the entire fleet of BavAdria is placed on land in period November to March for comprehensive service work, such as antifouling, sailing, etc. This unique opportunity is enabled only because BavAdria Yachting and Marina Kastela present a joint family enterprise in complete. The OLA racing boat has been designed and built for sailing according to IMS standards in the shipyard Green Marine in England in 2003. The design belongs to the designer team Bootin & Carkeek. The boat is made entirely of carbon fibre and its sails are North sails (carbon fibre and Kevlar).

In the last 2 years the boat has been sailing under a Croatian flag.

It is worth mentioning that Ola won the European race according to the IMS rules, which took place on the island of Cres in 2007.  Furthermore Ola won 5th place in the World Championship in Athens, Greece, in 2008.

Also worth mentioning are the results obtained by Ola in regattas in Croatia, such as the 3rd place in the annual Mrduja Regatta in 2007 and 2008 (seocnd place in its boat class). We are particularly proud of these achievements, as Marina Kastela, in which Ola is docked, is also its sponsor.

Among our planned activities for 2009 is also a participation in the World championship in Brindisi, Italy.

Before we continue with this article, we would first like to thank all participants in our Bavadria Cup Regatta!

This year there more participants in the Regatta than ever before!
The competition took place in 2 categories: Bavaria 44 with 9 participating boats and Bavaria 46 with 11 participating boats, a total of 20 participating crews!

The start of the Regatta was scheduled for 11:00 in the morning, but because of the unfavorable weather conditions (no wind!!) it was postponed for 11:20.

This year the wind was not very sympathetic with the regatta participants. It was coming from all possible directions, was very weak and at times not blowing at all.  After a successful start with a Southwest-West wind, the crew of Navi was the first to reach the first buoy upwind, followed by the teams of Bavadria Yachting and sailing club "Trogir."  The first to go around the second buoy downwind was the team of Rowing club "Kastela"-Marinconsult, with Capt. Joško Berket at the steering wheel.  They were followed closely by Sailing Club Trogir, the "Otvoreno more" team, the team of the City of Kastela, etc.

Then the wind stopped completely. Even the wind ripples that the teams could see in the distance in the direction of Trogir did not reach us. That's why the Regatta distance had to be shortened. The first team to make the new turn around the first buoy was the one of Capt. Berket, again followed by the team of City of Kastela, Sailing Club Trogir, etc.

The goal line also had to be rearranged due to the lack of wind, and the overall winner of the regatta turned out to be the Rowing Club "Kastela" team.

The celebration took place on the premises of Marina Kastela.
We would like to extend special thanks for their participation to our friends from ÖSYC in Austria with Skipper Peter Pennitz and to our friends from SD Krmar with Skipper Opalič Goran.

Traditional Dalmatian music and delicious fish with olive oil were of course an important component of the celebration.

Yet another traditional competition, the 77th Mrduja Regatta, has ended sporting the largest number of participants ever - which was to be expected - but much as a surprise also setting a new time record!    This limit of best sailing time established in 1973 has never been surpassed until now when the winner raced his "Shining Maxi Umago" over the regatta distance of 22 nautical miles in a mere 2 hours and 15 minutes.   A respectable achievement - and probably a very lasting one - congratulations!

As in the past, BAVADRIA enrolled in the competition with its own 12 yachts plus an additional 7 rented ones -  and all chartered for the event by employees of the T-MOBILE company like last year.  Scheduled starting time was 11 a.m. - the race took off smoothly without delay in good wind conditions (blowing from the southeast) lateron followed by spells of rain, and continued at a convenient pace up to the island of Mrdulja.  There the wind stopped blowing and there was a lull.  Underway back the yachts got caught in sudden gusts of wind which for some proved as too difficult to cope with, and at that point several participants gave up.
